PART A: READING
I. AIMS/OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON
1. Language focus: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- know more about competitions
- develop reading skills: reading for main ideas and specific information,
guessing the meaning of the words
2. Skills: Reading + Listening/Writing/Speaking
3. Attitudes: Ss are eager to read the reading passage and do the tasks
II. PREPARATION
1. Teacher: - Teaching aids: Lesson plan, text book
- Teaching method: Communicative language teaching
2. Students: - Read Unit 6 – reading at home
III. PROCEDURE:
1. Class organization (1 minute)
2. Check – up (5 minutes) - Some Ss go to the board, read out their letter
3. New lesson (35 minutes)

1. Pre – reading
- Ask sts to work in pairs, match the
pictures with activities.
- Give correct answers:
a. Quiz “Road to Mount Olympia”
b. London Marathon
c. Sao Mai Television Singing Contest
d. Olympics Games
- Ask sts to work in pairs, take turn ask
and answer about competitions at
schools and in the society.
- Give feedback and introduce the topic
of the lesson
- Work in pairs and do the task

2. While reading
- Ask students to read the passage
silently to understand the main ideas.
Task 1:
- Ask students to do Task 1 then
compare the answer with a partner.
- Call on some students to read the

answer about the reading passage.
- Go around the class to give help if
necessary
