I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Aims: - At the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to use past simple tense
to write a story about Uyen/s past experience.
2. Knowledge:
* Vocabulary: adventure, paddle, (to) rescue, (to) lean over, (to) overturn,
(to) stumble over.
* Grammar: Past simple tense to write a story.
3. Skills: Reading and Writing

III. PROCEDURES:
1. Revision: (4’)
Write the past form of the following verbs:
1. have ............. 3. stop ............. 5. get .............

?Do you have any story that happened in the
past/ ? Can you tell us about it?
- One has a story about himself or herself.
Today, we are going to know a story about
Uyen.
- Introduces the task of the lesson.
I. PRE-WRITING:
1. Vocabulary: (7’)
+ Adventure (n) (ex.)
+ Paddle (n,v) (mime)
+ (To) rescue (trans.)
+ (To) lean over (mime)
+ (To) overturn (sit.)
+ (To) stumble over (pic.)
- Elicits the words from the Ss and says them
out.
- Writes and checks.
- Uses Matching to check vocab.
2. Ordering a story (Part 1-P.106): (6’)
- Hangs on the statements and runs through
them.
- Asks Ss to work in groups to put them in the
- Try out & repeat chorally-individually.
- Give the meaning & make the sentences.
- Read and match them with the
Vietnamese meaning.
- Give their meaning.
- Share their ideas in groups and complete
the story.
- Speak out their answers and check it with
correct chronological order.
- Gets feedback and helps Ss to correct.
- Notices Ss with the chronological order in
the text.
II. WHILE-WRITING:
1. Put the picture in the correct order (Part
2-P.106): (6’)

- Asks Ss to work in groups to put the
pictures in the correct order.
- Goes round to help Ss.
- Invites answers and helps Ss to correct.
2. Write a story about Uyen (Part 2-106):
(10’)
- Asks Ss to compete the story about Uyen,
basing on the cues.
- Notices Ss with the form of the verbs in the
sentences, goes round to help them.
- Hands out the cellophanes and asks them
write their story on it.
III. POST-WRITING: (7’)
Exhibition
- Collects Ss/ drafts and put them on the
overhead.
- Asks the whole to correct the result and
helps them to complete the instructions

- Share their ideas in groups, basing the
situation in the pictures.
- Speak out their order and correct them

*Consolidation: (1’) - uses Exhibition to revise the way to write the a story.
Possible answers
She had a math exam on Friday and she got up late.
She realised her alarm clock did not go off. As she was leaving home, it
started raining heavily. Uyen tried to run as past as she could. Suddenly
she stumbled against the rock and fell down. Her schoolbag went into a
pool and everything got wet. Strangely, the rain stopped as she got to her
classroom. Luckily, Uyen had enough time to finish her exam.
IV. HOMEWORK: (3’)
- Asks Ss to complete their stories at home.
- Asks Ss to prepare: Language Focus - P.108-110.
+ -ed and –ing participles.
+ Requests with: - Would/Do you mind if…?
- Would/Do you mind + V-ing?
