UNIT 12: A VACATION ABROAD
LESSON 1: LISTEN AND READ
I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Aims: At the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
- Understand how to make and respond to formal requests and know places of
interest in Vietnam.
2. Knowlege:
* Vocabulary: on a tour, accommodation, accommodate, (to) include, (to) pick
s.o up.
3. Skill s : Listening, reading and speaking.
II. PREPARATION:
1. Teacher: Pictures on page 111, Lesson plan, cassette, tape, poster.
2. Students: + Pictures on page 111 and the dialogue on page 112.
+ Vocabulary: on a tour, accommodation, accommodate, (to) include, (to) pick
s.o up.
III. PROCEDURES:
1. Warm-up: (5’) Getting Started (Talking about the countries in the
world)
- Asks Ss to match the Names of the countries with the appropriate
pictures/flags, then work in pairs to ask and answer the following model:
S1: Which country do you need to visit?
S2: I/d like to visit (Australia).
S1: Why?
S2: Because Australian people are friendly.
2. New lesson:

*) Lead-in: (1’)
- Asks Ss to look at the picture and asks:
?Who are they?/ What are they talking
about?
- Introduces the lesson.
I. PRE- STAGES:
1. Vocabulary (6’)
+ On a tour (Trans.)
+ Accommodation (N) (Example)

+ (To) include (Trans.)
+ (To) pick someone up (Trans.)
- Elicits the words from the Ss and says
them out.
- Writes and checks.
- Uses Matching to check vocab.
2. Listen & practise the dialogue (5’)
- Introduces the characters in the dialogue.
- Try out & repeat chorally-individually.
- Give the meaning & make the sentences.
- Read and match them with the Vietnamese.
- Follow teacher.
- Listen to the dialogue, then practise it in
- Plays the tape twice and then asks Ss to
practise the dialogue in pairs.
- Invites two pairs to practise the dialogue.
II. WHILE- STAGES:
1. Complete the schedule (part 1-P.113)

*)Answer key:
- Hangs on the Grids and focuses Ss on the
task.
- Asks Ss to read the dialogue to fill in the
missing information.
- Gets feedback & invites the corrections.
2. Comprehension questions (part 2 -
P.113) (8’)
*) Answer key:
1. No, they will not. Because they will stay
at a hotel.
- Asks Ss to read the text again and answer
the questions at P.113.
- Gets feedback & helps Ss to correct.
III. POST- STAGES: (7’)
Formal invitation
*)Model:
Mrs. Smith: Would you like to come and
stay with us?
Mr. Quyen: That/s very kind of you.
- Asks Ss to read the dialogue again and
makes the question:What does Mrs. Smith
invite?
- Gives the example and then elicits the
structure from Ss.
- Asks Ss to give five activities they will
invite their friends and play guessing game.

- Read through the Grids.
- Read it and share their ideas in groups to
complete it.
- Speak out their answers, then correct .

- Asks Ss to revise the lesson at home.
- Asks Ss to prepare: Speak -P.113
