PART A: READING
I. AIMS/OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON
1. Language focus: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- To help students develop their reading skills: skimming for general ideas and
scanning for specific ones.
- To provide students with some new words and expressions
2. Skills: Integrated skills
3. Attitudes: Ss are encouraged to revise the lesson, work individually to
finish the exercises
II. PREPARATION
1. Teacher: - Teaching aids: Lesson plan, text book
- Teaching method: Communicative language teaching
2. Students: - Read Unit 12 – language focus at home
III. PROCEDURE:
1. Class organization (1 minute)
2. Check – up (5 minutes) - Some Ss go to the board, read out their letter
3. New lesson (35 minutes)

1. Before you read
- Read out the words, look at their meanings
- Work in pairs, look at the picture, find out the
hobbies in the pictures

- Instructs Ss to read the words and
phrases in the glossary

2. While you read
- Listen to the tape and read the passage for the
first time
Task 1
- Work individually skim the passage, finish task 1
then compare the answer with their partners:

Task 3
- Work in pairs, scan the passage again ask and
answer the questions
1. His first hobby is playing the guitar
2. No, he isn’t
3. Because his uncle is an accomplished guitarist
and he is good at accompanying people singing
by his guitar
4. His second hobby is keeping fish
5. He bought some from the shop and collected
some from the rice field near his house
- Plays the tape, asks Ss to listen to the
tape while reading
- Asks Ss to read out the words and
their meanings
- Calls some of the Ss to do task 1
