I. AIMS/OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON
1. Language focus:
- To help students develop their reading skills to get general and specific
information
- To provide students with new words and vocabulary
2. Skills: Reading + Listening/Writing/Speaking
3. Attitudes: Ss are eager to read the reading passage and do the tasks
II. PREPARATION
1. Teacher: - Teaching aids: Lesson plan, text book
- Teaching method: Communicative language teaching
2. Students: - Read Unit 15 – reading at home
III. PROCEDURE:
1. Class organization (1 minute)
2. Check – up (5 minutes) - Some Ss go to the board, read out their letter
3. New lesson (35 minutes)

1. Before you read
- Work in pairs, ask and answer the questions
+ Yuri Gagarin is the first human to fly into
space
+ Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin are the
first humans to set foot on the moon
+ Pham Tuan is the first Vietnamese to fly
into space.
- Asks some Ss to give the answer
2. While you read
- Ss listen to the tape and pick out the new
word in the reading passage
- Play the tape once
- Helps Ss to explore new words and phrases
+ lift off into space
+ astronaut = cosmonaut
+ orbit
Task 1
- Ss read the passage silently then do task 1
P1: The lift off
P2: A view on earth
P3: Uncertainties
P4: Congratulations
P5: The tragic accident
- Instructs Ss to study task 1, checks
understanding
- Asks Ss to compare their answer
4. Consolidation: (3 mins) - Words and phrases
- Summarize the reading text
5. Homework (1 min) - Summarize the reading text
