I. AIMS/OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON
1. Language focus: By the end of the lesson, teacher:
- To help students develop their speaking skills to express agreement and
disagreement
- To provide students with new words and phrases as well as the opportunity
to speak English at class

3. Attitudes: Ss are eager to speak about competitions

III. PROCEDURE:
1. Class organization (1 minute)
2. Check – up (5 minutes) - New words and summarize the text
3. New lesson (35 minutes)

1. When did China launch its first manned space craft into
space?
On 15th October 2003
2. What was the spacecraft called?
It was called “Shenzhou 5”
3. What did the successful flight mark?
It marked a milestone in China’s space project.
- Asks some pairs of students to

- Ss read out task 2, check understanding
- Work in groups to talk about important events in space
exploration
+ On 4th, October, 1957 the first artificial satellite called
Spunik, which was made by the USSR, was lifted into
space. This marked the beginning of the Space Age.
+ ON 3rd, November, 1957 the first living being was
launched into space on board Spunik II. It was a dog
named Laika.
+ Yuri Gagarin, a Russian cosmonaut, became the first
human to fly into space on 12th April, 1961. He was only
27 when he was in space.
+ On 16th June 1936 the fist woman flew into space. Her
name was Valentina Teresshkova, a Russian cosmonaut.
+ Yang Liwei is the first Chinese in space. He flew into
space on 15th November 2003 at the age of 38 years old.
He spent 21 hours in space.
