PART A: READING
I. AIMS/OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON
1. Language focus: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- know more about the traditional Tet in Vietnam
- develop reading skills: reading for main ideas and specific information, using
dictionary to get the meaning of the words
2. Skills: Reading + Listening/Writing/Speaking
3. Attitudes: Ss are eager to read the passage
II. PREPARATION
1. Teacher: - Teaching aids: Lesson plan, text book
- Teaching method: Communicative language teaching
2. Students: - Read Unit 8 - reading at home
III. PROCEDURE:
1. Class organization (1 minute)
2. Check – up (5 minutes) - Some Ss go to the board, do the exercises again
3. New lesson (35 minutes)

1. Pre – reading
- Ask sts to look at the pictures and answer the questions
1. What time of the year is it?
2. What are the people in the picture doing?
3. What else do you see in the picture?
- Ask sts to work in pairs, tell about the activities they
enjoy doing most at Tet.
- Give feedback
- Look at the pictures and answer
questions
- Students’ answers may be varied
- Work in pairs

2. While reading
- Ask students to read the passage silently to understand
the main ideas.
Task 1:
- Ask students to do Task 1 then compare the answer with
a partner.
- Call on some students to read the answers
- Checks and gives correct answers:
- Read the text silently once or two
times.
- Work individually to do task 1
- Compare the answers
- Read aloud their answers
- Write down the correct answers
4. Consolidation (3 mins) - New words and vocabulary
- Read the passage again
5. Homework: (1 min)- New words and vocabulary
- Read the passage again
