LESSON 2: SPEAK & LISTEN
I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Aims: - At the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
- Use “can/could ...; certainly, of course...” to ask for favors, offer
assistance and practise responding.
- Listen to understand a children/s song
2. Knowledge:
* Grammar: Asking for favors, offering assistance and practising
responding.
3. Skills: Speaking, listening & writing
II. PREPARATION:
1. Teacher: Lesson plan, posters, textbook, cassete, CD.
2. Students:
- Prepare: Speak and Listen - P.55-56
+ Strutures to ask for and respond to favors
+ Structures to offer and respond to assistance
III. PROCEDURES:
1. Checking: Call on one student to talk about their personal
information, using the information in their Form
Ex: My name is... I live in ...

- Introduces the lesson.
I. PRE-SPEAKING:
Presentation dialogues
- Introduces the dialogues on page 55 and
56.
- Calls on some pairs to reading the
dialogues aloud.
- Elicits the structures to ask for and
respond to favors, offer and respond to
assistance
- Consolidates the knowledge.
Form: * To ask for favors:
- Can/could you help me, please?
- Could you do me a favor?
- I need a favor.
- Answer the questions.
- Listen to teacher.
- Practice in pairs.
- Say out the structures.
- Listen and write down.
- Can/Could you (open the door)?
Responses:
+ Certainly/OK…
+ What can I do for you?
+ How can I help you?
+ I/m sorry. I’m really busy.
* To offer assistance:
- May I help you?
- Do you need any help?
- Let me help you.
Responses:
+ Yes/No. Thank you
+ Yes, that/s very kind of you.
+ No. Thank you. I’m fine.
II. WHILE-SPEAKING: (10’)
Making the dialogues
- Hangs on the cues on page 56 and ask
Ss to build up the dialogues in pairs.
- Asks Ss to show their ideas to the front.
- Helps Ss to correct if necessary
III. POST-SPEAKING:
Listening to the song and fill in the gaps
- Asks Ss be about listening to the text
about the children/s song.
- Plays the tape twice for Ss to listen and
do the task.
- Gets feedback and plays the tape once
again and checks the information.
* Answer key:
1. unite 2. peace 3. love 4. south
5. world 6. show 7. out 8. stand
- Makes the question:
+ What does the song talk about?
- Work in pairs to make the dialogues.
- Share their ideas with teacher.
- Practise asking for favors and offer
assistance.
- Listen, take notes and work in groups &
share their ideas.
- Listen and complete the missing words.
- Give out the answer.
- Answer it individually
It is about that the children of the world
always hold hands, unite for love, peace
and right
IV. HOMEWORK:
- Asks Ss to complete their dialogues for the cues on page 56 again
in notebook.
- Learn by heart strutures on page 55.
- Prepare for reading - P.57:
+ Vocabulary: character (n), citizenship(n), (to) encourage,
awareness(n), organization (n), movement (n), aim (n)
