I. OBJECTIVES:

activities their HCM Young Pioneers Organization often does.

3. Skills: Reading, speaking & writing
II. PREPARATION:
1. Teacher: Lesson plan, posters, pictures.
2. Students:Vocabulary: character (n), citizenship (n), (to)
encourage, awareness (n), organization (n), movement (n), aim (n)
III. PROCEDURES:
1. Revision: (5’) Brainstroming (Groupwork)
helping handicapped children Planting trees
helping blind people
cleaning up beaches, streets...
2. New lesson:

*Lead-in: (1’)
- Introduces HCM CYU, asks Ss to find
out the full name of this organization.
- Introduces the general information and
leads in the lesson.
I. PRE-READING:
1. Vocabulary (7’)
+ Character (N) (Example)
+ Citizenship(N) (Trans.)
+ Voluntary (Adj) (Situation)
+ (To) encourage (Trans.)
Ex: I encourage him to learn English
+ Awareness (n). (Situation)
- Elicits the words from the Ss and says
them out.
- Writes and checks., instructs Ss to read.
- Uses “ Matching” to check vocab. and
asks Ss to correct.
2. Open prediction (Part 1-P.57) (5’)
- Hangs on the dates and events and sets
- Think about and then speak out their
ideas
- Try out & repeat chorally-individually.
- Give the meaning, make the sentences.
and run through the words.
- Go to the B.B and match the words with
the Vietnamese meaning.
- Read them through and focus on the

- Asks Ss to predict the dates from the
events in gourps.
- Gets feedback.
II. WHILE-READING
1. Read the text & check predictions (8’)
- Asks Ss to read the text and checks the
dates of the events.
- Asks them to share their ideas again and
gets feedback.
- Checks answers with the whole class.

2. Read the text and answer the
questions (10’)
*Answer key:

- Asks Ss to read the text individually,
then share their ideas in pairs.
- Gets feedback & asks the whole to

III. POST-READING: (7’)
