UNIT 7: MY NEIGHBORHOOD
LESSON 1: LISTEN AND READ
I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Aims: - At the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
+ Understand the dialogue between Nam and Na and know some
places in their neighborhood.
+ Know how to use present perfect tense.
2. Knowledge :
+ Vocabulary: neighborhood (n), area (n), close by (adv), (to)
serve, pancake (n), tasty = delicious (adj).
+ Grammar: Present perfect tense.
3. Skill s : Listening, reading, speaking and writing
II. PREPARATION:
1. Teacher: Lesson plan, posters, worksheets, pictures, projector,
tape.
2. Students:
+ Names of places around their house.
+ Names of places in the pictures on page 63
+ Vocabulary in the dialogue on page 63-64: neighborhood (n),
area (n), close by (adv), (to) serve, pancake (n), tasty = delicious (adj).
+ Present perfect tense.
III. PROCEDURES:
1. Warm-up: (5’)
* Getting started: Matching
T: + asks Ss to tell names of places around their house.
+ gives out the pictures on page 63 and asks Ss to match the names of
places with the pictures.
Ss: share their ideas in pairs and stand up to say aloud their answer.
T: gives feedback.
* Answer: a) grocery store b) stadium c) wet market
d) drugstore e) hairdresser’s f) swimming-pool
2. New lesson:

*) Lead-in: (1’)
- Give out pictures and asks Ss: “Who is
this?”
- Introduce: Today, we’re going to learn
about a dialogue between Nam and Na to
know about her neighborhood in Unit 7:
My neighborhood – Lesson 1: Listen and
read.
I. PRE-STAGE:
- Answer: “This is Nam. And this is
Na.”
- Listen to teacher.
1. Vocabulary (8’)
- Elicit the words from the Ss and says
them out.
- Write, check and instruct Ss to read.
+ Neighborhood (n) (situation)
+ Area (n) (translation)
+ Close by (adv) (synonym)
+ (To) serve (picture)
+ Pancake (n) (picture)
+ Tasty = delicious (adj) (synonym)
- Use “What and where” check the
vocabulary and asks Ss to correct.
2. Presentation the dialogue (5’)
- Introduce the dialogue between Nam and
Na then play the tape twice for Ss to listen.
- Ask Ss to practice the dialogue in pairs
and then invites some pairs to practice the
dialogue in front of the class.
- Help Ss to correct pronunciation and
intonation.
II. WHILE-STAGE: (7’)
* Gap-fill (Part 2 – page 64)
- Give out the poster with the statements
and runs through the information.
- Ask Ss to read the dialogue again to fill
in the missing information in groups.
- Ask Ss to exchange their groups’ work.
- Choose one work, gets comments and
checks with the Ss.

III. POST-STAGE: (15’)
1. Grammar: Present perfect tense
- Ask Ss to read the dialogue again and
give out the model sentences:
+ We have been here since last week.
+ We have lived here for about 10 years.
- Give out one more example:
- Try to call out the words.
- Repeat chorally- individuall, give the
meaning, stress of words.
- Listen and repeat, remember then go
to the board to rewrite the words in
the correct cicles.
- Pay attention and listen to the tape.
- Practice the dialogue in pairs, then
play the roles with the dialogue
- Correct themselves.
- Read through the statements.
- Read it, share their ideas in groups
and write their answers on the
worksheets
- Exchange the worksheet with an
other group.
- Give their answers, comment on their
friends’ work and correct them with
teacher.
- Read the dialogue again and pick out
the model sentences.
- Write down.
+ She has studied English since last
month.
- Elicit the form and use of present perfect
tense from Ss.
- Consolidate the grammar point.
2. Exercise 1: Complete expressions
using “since” or “for”
- Give out expressions of time and asks Ss
to complete the exepressions using “since”
or “for”
- Calls on some Ss to read aloud the
answer.
- Gets comments and gives correct answer.
3. Exercise 2: Give the correct form of
verbs in brackets to complete the
sentences
- Give out the sentences and guides Ss to
do the exercise.
- Call on some Ss go to the board and
- Say out their ideas.
- Listen and write down.
- Read through and work individually
to do the exercise.
- Read aloud their answer.
- Give comments on their friends’
answer and correct themselves.
- Read the sentences and listen to
teacher.
- Go to the board and give out their
* Answer:

a) Form:
S + have/has + p.p + since/for + time.
* Notes:
Past participle (p.p): V-ed / V3
Examples:
Play – played – played
Go – went – gone
b) Usage:
+ We use present perfect tense to talk about actions, events happened in the past,
lasted to the present and maybe continue to the future.
+ It is usually use with “since” and “for”.
Since + a point of time
For + length of time
complete the sentences on the computer.
- Get comments from Ss and checks the
answer with the whole class.
* Answer:
a. have worked
b. has seen
c. lived
d. have lived
answer.
- Give comments and check the answer
with the whole class.
* Consolidation: (2’)
- Elicit the different between past simple tense and present progressive
tense through two sentences in the above exercise.
+ I lived in Ha Noi in 2012.
+ They have lived in Ha Noi since 2012.
IV. HOMEWORK: (2’)
- Learn by heart vocabulary and present perfect tense.
- Write the dialogue in practice writing notebook.
- Do exercise 1, 2, 5 on page 44, 46 (workbook).
- Prepare Lesson 2: Speak and Listen
+ Making a dialogue at the post office.
