Lesson 1: Listen and read
I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Aim: By the end of the lesson ss will be able to listen and read a
dialogue between Ba and Liz about the rice cooking contest then check
the T or F sentences.
- Standard: Practice and understand the dialogue to check the
sentences
- Higher: Write a mindmap about the festival
2. Knowledge:
+ Vocabulary: festival (n), to fetch, upset (a), to yell, to urge, to
make a fire, to rub, to separate, judge (n).
+ Structures:
- Compound nouns: rice-cooking contest…
- Passive form in present simple tense.
- Reported speech.
+ Pronunciation:
3. Skills: Listening, reading and speaking.
II. PREPARATION:
1. Teacher: Lesson plan, text book, cassette, tape.
2. Students:
+ Vocabulary: festival (n), to fetch, upset (a), to yell, to urge, to
make a fire, to rub, to separate, judge (n).
+ Structures:
- Compound nouns: rice-cooking contest…
- Passive form in present simple tense.
- Reported speech.
III. PPROCEDURE:
1. Check up: (5’) Getting started
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to discuss the question on page 121: Where
should these people go on their visits to Viet Nam.
- Call on some Ss to give their answer.
- Give feedback.
2. New lesson:

I. Pre-stage: (13’)
1. Vocabulary:
- Elicit the words first, says out then instruct Ss to
read the words.
- Write and check the words.

2. Pre- questions:
- Give out the questions, ask Ss to listen to the
tape and answer them.

- Play the tape for Ss to listen.
- Get the answer.
II. While-stage: (15’)
1. Checking answer:
- Play the tape again for Ss to listen while reading
the dialogue.
- Call on some pairs to practice the dialogue
before class.
- Check the answer with the whole class.

- Correct and write down.
- Has Ss to work in groups to talk about the rice
cooking festival, using the outline.

- Call on some representative of some groups to
practice before class.
- Comment and correct.

IV. HOMEWORK:
- Learn the vocabulary of the lesson.
- Have them to prepare Unit 13 - Lesson 2: Speak and Listen.
+ Vocabulary: pomegranate (n), peach blossom (n), dried watermelon
seed (n), spring roll (n), marigold (n).
